Shamatha Meditation

Monday, July 10, 2017
10:00 am - 12:00 pm Shamatha Meditation
Matrika House, Portland ME

With Shambhavi Sarasvati

A journey into relaxing deeply and immersing yourself in the immediacy of life.

You will learn:

  • What is meditation?
  • What are the different kinds of meditation?
  • Shamatha, an open-eyed meditation practice that invokes the simplicity and calm abiding that comes from rediscovering your home in the world just as it is. Shamatha softly re-integrates you into life as an experiencer and participant rather than as an observer or through methods of concentration.

ALL LEVELS OF MEDITATORS ARE WELCOME.

This is a Jaya Kula core teaching.

This event is part of Kripa! Jaya Kula’s Annual Summer Retreat! July 7-16: Explore the complete listing of teachings and special events.

Sahaja – the Practice of Natural Contemplation

Monday, July 10, 2017
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Sahaja - the Practice of Natural Contemplation
Matrika House, Portland ME

with Shambhavi Sarasvati

Natural contemplation means resting totally fresh and uncontrived in effortless enjoyment of living presence. —Shambhavi

What is Sahaja?

Sahaja, or natural contemplation is non-conceptual, open-eyed meditation with minimal form. In other traditions, similar practices are called Trekchö (Dzogchen), Mahamudra (Kagyu) and Shikantaza (Zen).

Sahaja has no purpose other than the enjoyment of Reality without alteration.

If you are an experienced practitioner of mindfulness, shamatha or vipassana meditation, Sahaja is the next step.

What you will receive

  • An understanding of the different styles of meditation and what meditation is and is not
  • Opportunity to learn and practice natural contemplation

Prerequisites

  • You must have an already-established, consistent meditation practice in which you sit for 45 minutes a day or more.
  • Current students:  Please talk to Shambhavi if you think you may be ready to begin Sahaja practice.

About Shambhavi

Shambhavi is an experienced practitioner and teacher of open-eyed meditation. She has received extensive instruction from teachers in the traditions of Trika Shaivism, Dzogchen and Kagyu Tibetan Buddhism. Read more about Shambhavi.

Soul Motion

Soul Motion Dance with Vinn Arjuna Martí

Monday, July 10, 2017
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Soul Motion Dance with Vinn Arjuna Martí
State Street Church, Portland ME

Soul Motion is a conscious dance practice that views creativity as an inherent expression for every body. Nurturing and developing the awakening of stillness in every movement moment, Soul Motion supports this realization as a fully engaged expression. Courting relationships with another as a means for understanding self, it holds deeply and dearly to the dance as a dialogue with reality.
~Vinn Arjuna Martí

What happens in a Soul Motion class?

Using guided movement inquiries and periods of open dance passages, students uncover their creative artistry by way of dance relationships and their inherent power and embodied presence through cultivation of the still point in the moving center.

Dance experience is never a requirement. Soul Motion is a movement program open to everyone, regardless of physical ability, fitness or prior dance experience.
