Hi there Kirk – good comment! The “I” you are talking about, I think, is the small I – that cobbled-together collection of concepts and experiences we in contemporary times call “ego.” I like to call it our “Ipod.” When we relax our karmic tensions and begin to get out of our Ipod, we experience the emptiness of that. However, going a bit further, we discover that emptiness is just an experience – not fundamental. This is when the living presence of Reality becomes tangible. That living presence is Shiva consciousness. We discover that our Reality is conscious and Self-reflective. We discover AHAM – the I AM of Reality. This is the nature of Self I am talking about in the video. It may seem that there is some contradiction between Kashmir Shaivism and Buddhism here. But my Buddhist teachers also teach, in the end,, that there is no emptiness. However, since Buddhist traditions tend to give relative teachings first, one rarely hears this. Then misunderstanding arises when people take on faith that emptiness of small self means that Reality is empty, or no Self whatsoever. I hope this helps.
