Ways to Attend
Feeling the Body, Healing the Heart
in Partnership with Shambhala Meditation Center of Portland
Every Sunday morning
with LaLa Drew & Bryan Mendiola
We come together as people of color to foster a space of safety, awareness, community, and healing. This is a time we can engage the practice of mindfulness meditation (shamatha), explore teachings on the Shambhala Dharma (truth), and share our personal, social, political, cultural, and/or spiritual lives together.
Shambhala is a secular meditation tradition rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, in the fundamental worthiness and sanity of all beings, and in the creation of an enlightened, awake society.
We are open to anyone who self-identifies as a person of color (POC). Individuals from all spiritual traditions are welcome, and no prior meditation experience is required.
Books we may explore together include (but are not limited to):
Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chӧgyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Mindfulness in Action by Chӧgyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Radical Dharma: Talking Race, Love, & Liberation by Rev. angel Kyodo Williams & Lama Rod Owens
The Way of Tenderness: Awakening through Race, Sexuality, & Gender by Zenju Earthlyn Manuel

May I act as the mighty earth
Or like the free and open skies
To support and provide the space
Whereby I and all others may grow.
