What is Mind Training?

Sometimes people understand mind training as getting rid of thoughts, or focusing the mind on the breath, an object or image, or on the present moment. This is not how mind training is done in direct realization lineages.

For us, mind training means learning to recognize the ever-present ocean of primordial awareness from which thoughts are arising.  Then we simply rest in that. Our minds become calmer over time, but even as thoughts naturally arise and subside, we are not distracted or disturbed.

Mind training is a way to prepare to enter more deeply into any meditation practice.

What you will learn

  • What is ordinary mind?
  • How to relate to and calm your mind
  • Simple, classical mind training practices you can do in order to recognize and meditate on the base state of awareness/nature of mind even as thoughts are arising and subsiding
