Moonlight Expanse
Dohas are spontaneous songs of spiritual experience, celebration, and prayer. They often contain spiritual teachings. The dohas of teachers are sometimes sung by students as part of their sadhana. Dohas have existed since ancient times in traditions from both India and Tibet.
Shambhavi started producing dohas during a personal retreat. As she says, “Dohas are intimate self-expressions at the same time that they speak about the essence of existence and waking up.”
LYRICS
When karmic vision fades
a field of moonlight takes its place
an infinite expanse
of natural sweetness: cool and white
No longer angry or aggrieved
Not distracted, no complaints
Memories from linear time
Leave wisdom’s presence undisturbed.
If I struggled here and suffered,
and suffering were real,
I could justify my anger
I could refuse your call
I could reject your mocking smile
I could insist on setting out
without my hand in yours,
blinded by the ephemeral self
This flickering time
wandering realms of suffering
goes on and on forever
simultaneously with relief.
Seeing with the ultimate vision,
that has no need of eyes
moonlight rays pervade all directions
healing body, energy, and mind.
