Song of a Devotee
Dohas are spontaneous songs of spiritual experience, celebration, and prayer. They often contain spiritual teachings. The dohas of teachers are sometimes sung by students as part of their sadhana. Dohas have existed since ancient times in traditions from both India and Tibet.
Shambhavi started producing dohas during a personal retreat. As she says, “Dohas are intimate self-expressions at the same time that they speak about the essence of existence and waking up.”
Song of a Devotee is the first of Shambhavi’s dohas from her retreat in May 2019.

I am a servant, not a lover.
I am a daughter, not a mother.
I swim in Her eternal ocean
without up, down, or center.
I am the open secret for those who see.
I am exact and tender words for those who hear.
I am earth and slanting sun
for players long on the field.
My romance is all-embracing.
My confidence cannot be shaken.
I see only what She grants me.
I speak what hides yet longs for revealing.
The friends of my heart are travelers,
yogis, minstrels, healers, and diviners.
And despite conventional arisings,
I seek honest companions, not disciples.
