Podcast First Words

One of the functions of being around people who have a great degree of realization is that they’re actually people that you can be around. In being just people that you can be around, you get to have a first hand experience of how it’s possible to feel in the human body.

We all have what we consider to be natural and right ideas about how we should respond to things. For instance, if we get hurt, we experience a loss like losing our job, we get sick, or someone attacks us in some way. We have these conceptions about what is a natural way to respond to these types of events.

But actually, for most of us, how we respond to those kinds of things in our lives is very, very limited. And when we’re around people who aren’t as limited as we are, who aren’t as conditioned, and who aren’t operating through a set of received concepts, then we can see that it’s possible to have a very different response to events that we feel are threatening, upsetting, or injurious in some way.
