Dohas are spontaneous songs of spiritual experience, celebration, and prayer. They often contain spiritual teachings. The dohas of teachers are sometimes sung by students as part of their sadhana. Dohas have existed since ancient times in traditions from both India and Tibet.

Dohas are intimate self-expressions at the same time that they speak about the essence of existence and waking up. ~Shambhavi Sarasvati

Shambhavi started writing dohas spontaneously in the spring of 2019 while on a personal retreat.

that is you lord

lyrics

Who is that swan
drifting on the lake of blue?
Who is that lake
shining like a precious jewel?
A mountain is standing
above and below.
That is you Lord.
That is you.

Who is the teacher
who speaks the precious words?
Who shoots the arrow
straight from wisdom’s bow?
Whose unbroken kindness
reaches toward us all?
That is you Lord.
That is you.

Who is the student
laying at your feet?
Who plays at resisting
the wanderer’s return?
Who turns toward you
time after time?
That is you Lord.
That is you.

Pride accomplishes
only shame and regret

Destruction destroys
only what must be lost.

Who takes so long
to remember Reality’s ways?

That is you Lord.
That is you.

Words by Shambhavi Sarasvati. Music by Shambhavi and Sahaji Rablin.
