We aren’t trying to stop thoughts. We’re trying to remain undistracted from natural awareness, no matter what is happening in our mind or anywhere. ~Shambhavi
What is Mind Training?
People often understand mind training as getting rid of thoughts or as focusing the mind on the breath, an object, an image, or on the present moment. This is not how mind training is done in direct realization traditions.
For us, mind training means learning to recognize the ever-present ocean of living awareness from which thoughts arise and into which they subside. We then practice resting in that base state of the mind. Even as thoughts come and go, we are not distracted or disturbed.
Mind training is a way to prepare to enter more deeply into any spiritual practice.
